The Uptown Whittier YMCA Travel Club meets at the Y at 10:00 am the third Monday of each month (second Monday in December). Come join us and learn more about the club, get the latest on upcoming trips, enjoy free coffee and snacks, see an always interesting program. Everyone is welcome. June 22 - COME FLY WITH ME - This exciting new day trip begins with a visit to the new Flight Path Learning Center and Museum at the LAX Imperial Terminal. This unique museum features model airplanes, photographs, airline uniforms and other memorabilia. Through its many windows that look out onto the runways at LAX, visitors can watch airplanes take off and land as they take a peel inside a DC-3 and witness a demonstration by one of the airport's K-9 units (if available). We will enjoy lunch at The Encounter Restaurant located in the Landmark Theme Building in the center of the airport above ground, overlooking the LAX complex. Each guest will be offered a choice of Smoked Turkey Club Sandwich, or a Crispy Chicken Tenderloin Salad with many additional ingredients, or a Spicy 8 oz. Angus Beef Cheeseburger. Dessert and Beverage is included.

July 24 - LANE VICTORY - Take an exciting cruise aboard the LANE VICORY, a fully restored WWII cargo ship. Experience the sights of Los Angeles Harbor en route to the blue Pacific and beautiful Catalina Island. Relive the excitement of a wartime convoy; explore the entire ship while listening to a live band playing memorable songs of the 30's and 40's. Take a tour through the engine room or visit wartime memorabilia in the ship's museum. Witness a mock aerial attack with genuine WWII fighter planes providing a great air show. Enjoy a Continental Breakfast and Catered Lunch.

August 18-19 - PLAYING IN PISMO - Did you know that Pismo Beach the clam capital of California? Well it is, so if the mood strikes you, you can get up early Thursday morning and go dig a few before our day begins. However.......this overnight excursion also takes you to the picturesque central coast villages of Arroyo Grande and Avila Beach. You'll enjoy a fun evening cheering for the hero and booing at the nasty villain at the Great American Melodrama & Vaudeville show in the quaint town of Ocean. Great meals, include: Lunch at the historic Madonna Inn, Dinner in Besom Beach and Lunch in Avila Beach overlooking the harbor, and homemade gooey cinnamon rolls for breakfast will satisfy everyone's appetite.

September 28 - October 5th - KENTUCKEY & TENNESSEE Day 1: Nashville - Fly to Nashville for a two night stay at the Doubletree Hotel.
Day 2: Nashville City Tour Belle Meade Plantation - A narrated driving tour will show you some of the highlights of this dynamic city. Tour Belle Meade Plantation, the "Queen of the Tennessee Plantations," world-renowned as a thoroughbred stud farm in the 19th Century. End the day with a southern-style dinner
Day 3: Bardstown & National Corvette Museum - Travel into nearby Kentucky and make a stop in Bowling Green to visit the National Corvette Museum Head to gracious Bardstown where a guided tour will show you some of the highlights. Top off the with a visit to Chapeze House, a Federalist Mansion, built by one of the French Army Officers who came to America with Lafayette. Bardstown is know as the "Bourbon Capitial of the World," and the house played an important part of Kentucky Bourbon History. Learn more about the only distilled spirit native to America during a bourbon tasting and dinner with a bourbon flair. You will be staying the night at the Hampton Inn. Breakfast and Dinner Included.
Day 4: My Old Kentucky Home Kentucky Derby Museum - Stephen Foster wrote what has become the Official State Song while visiting his cousins. Costumed guides will escort you through the stately mansion know today as My Old Kentucky Home. Enjoy lunch at the Historic Talbot Tavern before heading to Louisville. See Churchchill Downs and tour the unique Kentucky Derby Museum. You will be staying the night at the Galt House. A Continental Breakfast and Lunch is included.
Day 5: Berea & Shaker Village - Step back in time at the fascinating Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, the most completely restored Shaker Community in the country,. In answer to the ringing of the Dinner Bell, enjoy a delicious Shaker-style Lunch in the Trustee's Office. Head to Berea, known as the "Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky." You will be staying the night at the Charming Boone Tavern Hotel. Breakfast and Lunch is included.
Day 6: Pigeon Forge - This morning, a driving tour with a local guide will show you the tree-lined campus of Berea College. You will learn how this highly acclaimed, tuition-free liberal arts college developed a student program and working craft studios. Enjoy Lunch at the popular Boone Tavern before heading back into Tennessee and Pigeon Forge on the edge of the Smoky Mountains, to spend the next two nights at the Holiday Inn Express. Breakfast and Lunch is included.
Day 7: Pigeon Forge & Dollywood Great Smoky Mountains - Experience the magnificent beauty of the The Great Smoky Mountains on a driving tour with a local guide who will acquaint you with the Park's History, plant and animal life. Head for Dollywood, during the annual Harvest Festival. The unique park with its rustic setting which brings to life the story of Dolly Parton and the Appalachian Mountains with live musical shows and handmade crafts. End the day with a Farewell Dinner. A Continental Breakfast and Dinner are included.

October 14 - BOB BAKER MARIONETTES This trip was first done as a Mystery Trip several years ago and met with such unbelievable success that it was repeated as an open trip later on. Again, the response was so overwhelming that we are offering it again. Upon arrival at the theater we are treated to Danish Pastry and Coffee in a separate dining room. Then we are seated in the comfortable auditorium where throngs have been entertained since 1963, and we'll LET THE SHOW BEGIN! After our spirits have been lifted to a record-breaking high, we will journey on over to Philippe's for one of their matchless lunches, complete with beef, pork, lamb, turkey or ham French dip sandwich, salad, beverage and dessert. All in all it's a day where you are guaranteed to come home absolutely exhilarated.

November 18 - NETHERCUTT COLLECTION This is another trip that has been done before, but the collection has been enlarged so much (now two museums instead of one) that in view of how well received it was when we first did it, it seems like a good idea to repeat it at this time. First we will stop for lunch at The Smoke House Restaurant which from its inception was frequented by all the Warner Bros. Luminaries. It is still a family-owned operation and serves some of the best food in the Valley. You'll enjoy a specially prepared three-course lunch:sirloin of beef, chicken teriyaki or daily catch. Then we will head to Sylmar for tour of the Nethercutt, founder of Merle Norman Cosmetics. some of the highlights of the collection include more than 30 priceless antique, classic and sports cars on display in the Grand Salon Showroom. You'll also view on of the world's largest and finest assemblages of mechanical musical instruments - music boxes, big and small, and the jewel of the collection - a Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. There are clocks and watches, antique furnishings, crystal and more that 1,000 hood ornaments to see. A little later you'll spend some time exploring Mr. Nethercutt's newest museum located across the street. The 60,000 square foot structure highlights the man's love for vintage cars with more than on hundred of these fully restored beauties on display. There is also a 1912 Pullman private car once owned by Clara Baldwin Stocker, daughter of "Lucky" Baldwin, and 1937 Canadian pacific Royal Hudson Locomotive. You are guaranteed to find this a day to remember.

December 5 - CHRISTMAS IS Once again our traditional Christmas program - the always magnificent production presented by Citrus College and its exceedingly talented students. As most of you know, the first half consists of great choruses - the bell chorus as well as the men's, women's and combined choruses. The second half is always a play. Aside from the outstanding talent always presents in these show, the amazing thing is that all the work is done by the students. Many of our members have said that Christmas Is....... always marks that start of the Christmas season for them. As usual, we will have Lunch at Edward's Steakhouse where you will have your choice of entree.
