Camp Arbolado has had a long and rich history, with its roots going all the back to the early 1920’s in Big Tujunga Canyon in the Angeles National Forest. In 1925 severe drought conditions forced the camp to move to the current Barton Flats ranger station site in the San Bernardino National Forest. The camp name was then changed to Camp Arbolado, which is the Spanish term for woodland. In 1932 State Highway 38 was constructed and a Forestry Service Ranger Station established at Barton Flats. Camp Arbolado moved once more to its current spot just across State Highway 38 and a stone’s throw from the Barton Flats ranger station.

The Camp Arbolado Alumni Association is a group of people who are united in a common effort to support and enhance the mission of the YMCA of Greater Whittier Camp Arbolado and the families, youth and staff it services. The Association’s purpose is to create opportunities to celebrate and support our ties to YMCA Camp Arbolado.

One of our key focuses in addition to nurture rich connections with our fellow alums is to document the long and important history of Camp Arbolado and its attendees.  You are part of that history and we want you to be part of this tradition to coninute our fellowship down the hill.

Over its rich 91+ year history, Camp Arbolado has touched and changed thousands of lives. The source of that enthusiasm and support is alive and well in the alums who’ve had the privilege of participating in their transformational experiences. As alumni we will forevermore call this special place “home” and work to ensure that others continue to have the opportunities to be part of the Arbolado family.

We are working to engage our alumni campers in variety of ways:

  • Sponsoring camperships
  • Recognizing alumni, campers and staff
  • Annual dinner
  • Camp work projects
  • Special camp weekends
  • Assisting with camp staff on program and leadership

Anyone who has attended YMCA Camp Arbolado is a member! There is no fee associated with membership.

  • Priority camp registration for your family and friends
